It’s been 9 months since I last went to a car show with the S15, so I figured seeing how there was an All Stars show coming up and It was such a long time since I’d been out, this was a good chance for a bit of sunshine.
Ever since my house move the S15 hasn’t had much attention. Along with the 180sx and S13 it’s been stuck in storage with no escape apart from a drive down the road every few days.
The last show I went to was the All Stars Spring Picnic last year with a few friends. When they announced there was to be another one coming up at the same place I made sure I was free. I wanted to clean it up a bit and take it out for a nice relaxing day.
I hadn’t made any changes to the car since doing the rear wing, mainly because I’m so happy with how it is now. As I’ve said in the past all I think left is a respray, but the paint is still so fresh that getting one would be a bit pointless at the moment. Maybe in a few years it might be something I can look into.
One thing people are constantly telling me is that I should get some LED taillights. This is one thing I will never do to this car, ever. The LED tails on an S15 just look completely wrong, they make it look really cheap and undesirable, whereas the stock tails are simple so they fit in well with my setup.
The atmosphere at the show is something not many other shows have, really relaxed, nice people and a wide range of cars and setups. Some static, some on bags and others on the Aussie original, chopped springs.
Going to these has always been fun, it makes you realise how many amazing street cars Australia has to offer. Admittedly it’s nowhere near as good as Japan or the U.S but for a country which used to be filled with cars that had leather trimmed everything, big sound systems and crazy airbrushed paintjobs, it’s definitely moved a long way in terms of style.
These days it seems like simple is the way everyone wants to go, not very many cars get around that are all out mayhem with $100,000 budgets. Some low, wheels and a bit of aero is the perfect setup in my opinion, then have something to make it unique, something that makes it stand out from the rest.
That was my goal from the start and if I had to do it again, I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
I’ll keep taking the car to every event I can, whenever I get the chance and if I’m available, I’ll make sure it’s there.
Having it in a finished state really helps as well. Trying to build two other cars at the same time gets a little intense sometimes. With this one finished I know I can look at it and hope the other two turn out just as good.
